DUBAI – The Global Village Dubai has introduced a new augmented reality attraction designed to transform a traditional visit into an interactive digital adventure, marking a major addition to its milestone 30th season.

Called The Wonderverse, the experience blends mobile-based gameplay with the destination’s physical attractions, inviting visitors to explore the park through a series of challenges, puzzles and hidden digital elements. The launch coincides with a packed festive calendar, as Global Village continues to expand its entertainment offering during one of its busiest periods of the year.

The Wonderverse is positioned as a park-wide experience rather than a standalone ride, encouraging guests to explore pavilions, attractions and walkways while engaging with the game. According to Global Village, the initiative represents its first step towards the metaverse, creating a bridge between real-world exploration and a new digital dimension inspired by the park’s spirit of cultural connection.

Digital worlds

At the heart of The Wonderverse are four distinct interactive worlds spread across Global Village. Each world features its own storyline, challenges and objectives, requiring participants to solve puzzles, uncover clues and collect missing map pieces as they move through the destination. Progressing through the experience unlocks secret portals and rewards, culminating in the chance to win a grand prize of Dh30,000.

The attraction has been designed to appeal to visitors of all ages, with tasks that promote exploration and teamwork among families and groups. The experience introduces what Global Village describes as a “phygital” layer, where physical surroundings are enhanced by digital content that responds to movement, interaction and discovery. One of the highlights includes an augmented reality fireworks feature, which can be activated by pointing a smartphone camera towards the sky.

How it works

Participation in The Wonderverse requires only a smartphone. Guests can join by scanning QR codes positioned throughout Global Village, which guide them into the experience and unlock missions linked to specific areas of the park. From there, players are led through a sequence of interactive tasks, including fast-paced carnival-style challenges that test speed, focus and attention.

The experience runs alongside Global Village’s existing attractions, allowing visitors to engage with the game at their own pace while continuing to shop, dine or attend shows. Points and rewards are collected digitally, with progress tracked through the mobile interface. Global Village says the design encourages repeat engagement, as guests move between different zones to complete all four worlds.

Scale and reach

Part of Dubai Holding Entertainment, Global Village is one of the region’s most visited seasonal attractions. Since opening in 1997, it has welcomed more than 100 million guests. During the previous season, the destination recorded more than 10.5 million visitors in just six months, placing it among the top five most visited parks globally, despite operating for only half the year.

The park currently features 30 pavilions representing more than 90 cultures, alongside over 3,500 shopping outlets and more than 250 dining options. Across the season, visitors can also experience tens of thousands of live performances, rides, games and attractions, reinforcing Global Village’s reputation as a large-scale multicultural entertainment hub.

Seasonal celebrations

The launch of The Wonderverse arrives during a festive period for Global Village. In the lead-up to Christmas, the park has been transformed into a winter-themed setting, complete with a 21-metre-high Christmas tree and regular Santa parades. These seasonal elements run alongside the new AR experience, adding another layer to the visitor offering.

Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, Global Village has confirmed it will host seven separate countdowns in one night, each representing a different country and time zone. The celebrations will be accompanied by fireworks displays and drone shows, allowing guests to mark the arrival of the New Year multiple times without leaving Dubai.
